Ingredients

Servings
2
  • 1 0.5 lb ribeye steak, or other well-marbled tender cut
  • 1 onion, half roughly chopped and half thinly sliced
  • 3 clove garlic
  • 0.5 pear, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 3 spring onions, 1 cut into pieces and 2 sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 0.3 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds, for serving
  • 2 cup cooked rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. 1

Slice the beef as thinly as possible and set aside in a large bowl. Using frozen or cold beef makes the slicing easier.

  2. 2

In a blender or food processor, blend the roughly chopped onion, garlic, pear, green onion pieces, brown sugar, pepper, soy sauce, and sesame oil until smooth.

  3. 3

Pour the marinade over the beef, add the thinly sliced onion, and mix to coat evenly. Cover with plastic wrap and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, or overnight.

  4. 4

Heat the canola oil in a large skillet over high heat. Pat the marinated beef dry.

  5. 5

Being careful not to crowd the pan, sear the beef and onions until browned.

  6. 6

Sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve with rice and Korean side dishes.
