Flavor By Design is a personal recipe site. It collects very little, it does not sell or share personal information for marketing, and it does not run advertising trackers. This page lists exactly what is collected, why, how long it is kept, and how to have it removed.

What is collected

  • Recipe submissions. The recipe name, ingredients, instructions, and any cuisine, meal type, protein, or serving details you enter. Your name, email address, and social handle are optional and are stored only if you fill them in.
  • Newsletter. Your email address and a random unsubscribe token that lets the link in each email remove you with one click.
  • Affiliate click ledger. When you follow a Kitchen Picks link to a retailer, the site records the product, the destination, the page you came from, your browser's user-agent string, the referrer, and a salted hash of your IP address. The raw IP address is not stored and the hash cannot be reversed into one.
  • Web analytics. When enabled, Cloudflare Web Analytics measures page views and performance. It is cookie-less and does not fingerprint or follow you across sites.
  • Recipe assistant. If you use the chat assistant, the messages you type are sent to the AI provider described below so it can answer. Do not include personal information you would not want processed that way.

The site sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The shopping list and theme preference live in your own browser's local storage and never leave your device.

Why

  • Submission details are used to review and, if approved, publish your recipe with the attribution you asked for.
  • Your newsletter address is used only to send Flavor By Design emails and to honor unsubscribes.
  • The click ledger exists to measure which Kitchen Picks are useful, to detect abuse, and to reconcile affiliate reporting.
  • Analytics show which pages people read so the site can be improved.

How long it is kept

  • Recipe submissions are kept until they have been reviewed, then for 12 months after review.
  • Newsletter subscribers are removed when they unsubscribe.
  • Affiliate click records are kept for 24 months.

Third parties

  • Cloudflare sits in front of the site for security and caching and, when enabled, provides the cookie-less analytics described above.
  • Resend delivers newsletter and transactional email on the site's behalf and therefore processes subscriber addresses.
  • OpenAI powers the recipe assistant. Messages you send to the assistant are sent to OpenAI to generate a reply. Under OpenAI's API terms that data is not used to train their models; see OpenAI's API data policy for details.
  • Amazon. Kitchen Picks links lead to Amazon, whose own privacy policy applies once you leave this site.

Deleting your information

To have a submission, newsletter record, or anything else about you removed, send a request through the Submit Recipe page: use “Delete my data” as the recipe name and describe what to remove in the instructions field. It lands in the same queue the site owner reviews, and the request itself is deleted once handled. You can also stop newsletter emails at any time from the unsubscribe page or the link in any email.

Affiliate disclosure

As an Amazon Associate, Flavor By Design earns from qualifying purchases.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated. Material changes to what is collected will be noted here rather than applied silently.
