Dry Baking Mix
Ingredients
- 0.3 cup sugar
- cinnamon
- 2 cup flour
- 0.5 tsp ground ginger 1 tbs sugar
- 0.3 tsp salt 1 tbs baking powder
- nutmeg
- 1 tsp salt

- 3 cup shortening
- 0.5 cup yellow cornmeal
- 0.5 cup raisins Sift or mix dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until
- 0.5 cup pancake syrup mixture resembles fine meal.9Even better flavor if
- 2 tbs margarine, softened Butter Crisco is used as shortening
- 2 eggs, beaten
- warm. 2 recipes dry baking mix (see listing)
- 1 cup sourdough starter (see listing)

Pre-heat Dutch oven. Mix together sugar, WILD ONION BREAD

cinnamon, ginger, salt, and nutmeg. Blend well and

set aside. Heat milk in medium pot. Stir in 1 1/2oz package onion soup mix

cornmeal. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, 3/4 cups hot water
- 5
until very thick (20min). Remove form heat. Stir in 1 pkg dry yeast
- 6
sugar mixture and remaining ingredients. Pour into 2 tbs sugar
- 7
large greased pot and bake in Dutch oven 1 hour or 2 tbs warm water

until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve 1 egg

Add soup mix to 3/4 cups hot water; let stand until

lukewarm. In a separate container, soften yeast and

sugar with 2 tbs warm water. Beat soup mixture and
- 12
yeast mixture together with egg, 1 cup dry baking
- 13
mix, and sourdough starter. Stir in remaining dry SPOON BREAD

baking mix to make a stiff dough. Place on a floured
- 15
surface; knead until smooth and elastic. Place in a 2 cups yellow cornmeal

greased pot, turning to grease top. Cover and let 2 tsp salt

rise for 2 hours. Shape into a round loaf. Line a 1 tsp baking soda

Dutch oven with foil and grease. Place loaf in oven, 1 1/2 tbs margarine, melted

cover and let rise 45 minutes. Bake for 35 minutes 3 cups buttermilk

or until loaf is brown. 2 eggs, beaten
