  • 2 lb sirloin beef, cut into chunks
  • 2 cup potatoes, cut in large pieces
  • 2 cup carrots, cut in large pieces
  • 2 cup celery, cut in large pieces
  • 1 bag frozen small whole onions
  • 1 slice white bread, torn in pieces
  • 16 oz canned whole tomatoes with juice
  • 2 tbsp dry minced onion
  • 3 tbsp quick-cooking tapioca
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 10 0.8 oz can condensed tomato soup
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.3 tsp black pepper

Instructions

    Place all ingredients in a large slow cooker in the order listed. Do not stir.

    Cover and cook on LOW for 5 hours.

    Do not lift the lid or stir during cooking — this ensures the tapioca thickens the stew properly.

    Serve directly from the pot. Add additional vegetables as desired.
