T.G.I. Friday's French Onion Soup

Copycat TGI Friday's French onion soup — slowly caramelized onions in beef broth with sherry and Worcestershire, topped with croutons and broiled mozzarella.

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 cup onion, sliced
  • 3 cup beef broth
  • 1 0.5 cup water
  • 1 tbsp cooking sherry
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.3 tsp black pepper
  • 1 dash dried thyme
  • 1 cup soft croutons
  • 0.5 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Instructions

    Melt butter in saucepan over low heat. Add onions and cook 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized.

    Add beef broth, water, sherry, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, and thyme. Increase heat and bring to a boil.

    Reduce heat, cover, and simmer 5 minutes.

    Divide into oven-safe bowls. Top with croutons, then shredded mozzarella.

    Broil until cheese melts and begins to brown. Serve immediately.
