Ingredients

Servings
6
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp dried minced onion
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 6 count flatbreads or pita breads
  • 4 cup oil, for deep-frying
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • 2 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar/Jack cheese
  • 2 count tomatoes, diced

Instructions

  1. 1

Mix dried minced onion with water in a small bowl; let stand 5 minutes.

  2. 2

Combine ground beef, flour, chili powder, paprika, and salt. Mix well. Add onion-water mixture and stir again.

  3. 3

Cook beef mixture in a skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently to keep it paste-like — no large chunks. Remove from heat when cooked through.

  4. 4

Heat oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry flatbreads 30 seconds until lightly crispy. Drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

Build each chalupa: start with meat paste on the fried bread, then add sour cream, lettuce, cheese, and diced tomatoes. Serve immediately.
