Spareribs Cabbage 'n Kraut

- 3 0.5 lb pork spare ribs, cut into serving pieces
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 14 oz canned sauerkraut
- 0.5 count small cabbage head, thinly sliced
- 1 count large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 count apple, quartered, cored, and peeled
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 1 cup water

Sprinkle spare ribs with salt and pepper. Brown the ribs in a heavy skillet or broiler pan for about 30 minutes.

In the slow cooker, layer the spare ribs, sauerkraut, sliced cabbage, onion, and apple in alternating layers.

Add caraway seeds to the water and pour over all the layers.

Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or HIGH for 4 to 5 hours. Stir several times during cooking if using the HIGH setting.
