Slow Simmered Pork Roast

  • 2 0.3 lb boneless pork butt
  • 3 count green onions, cut into thin slivers
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, cut julienne
  • 2 count whole star anise
  • 2 tbsp soybean condiment (mein see) or hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 cup rice wine or dry sherry
  • 2 count cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 tsp ground white pepper
  • 2 cup water

Instructions

    In a bowl, mix together the green onions, ginger, star anise, soybean condiment, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice wine, garlic, and white pepper.

    Place the pork in a slow cooker or ovenproof casserole just large enough to hold it.

    Pour the sauce mixture over the pork. Add water.

    If using a slow cooker, cover and cook on LOW for 5 to 8 hours. If using an oven, cover and bake at 275 degrees F for 5 to 8 hours.

    Serve sliced with the cooking juices spooned over the top. The longer it cooks, the more tender it becomes.
