Ingredients

Servings
4
  • 3 lb chuck roast, 1½-inch thick
  • 1 packet dry mushroom soup mix (1 oz package)
  • 1 tbsp dried minced onion
  • 1 cup dry red wine (or water)

Instructions

  1. 1

Trim excess fat from the chuck roast.

  2. 2

Combine the dry mushroom soup mix and dried onion on a sheet of aluminum foil or wax paper. Roll the roast in the mixture to coat it well on all sides.

  3. 3

Place the coated roast in the slow cooker. Pour the red wine (or water) over the top.

  4. 4

Cover and cook on MEDIUM (or LOW) for 8 hours, turning the roast after 4 hours if possible. Alternatively, cook on HIGH for 4 hours, turning after 2 hours.

  5. 5

Cook until the meat is very tender and falls apart easily.

  6. 6

Serve with mashed potatoes and buttered green beans, spooning the savory mushroom juices over everything.
