Slow Cooker Mushroom Steak

- 3 lb chuck roast, 1½-inch thick
- 1 packet dry mushroom soup mix (1 oz package)
- 1 tbsp dried minced onion
- 1 cup dry red wine (or water)

Trim excess fat from the chuck roast.

Combine the dry mushroom soup mix and dried onion on a sheet of aluminum foil or wax paper. Roll the roast in the mixture to coat it well on all sides.

Place the coated roast in the slow cooker. Pour the red wine (or water) over the top.

Cover and cook on MEDIUM (or LOW) for 8 hours, turning the roast after 4 hours if possible. Alternatively, cook on HIGH for 4 hours, turning after 2 hours.

Cook until the meat is very tender and falls apart easily.

Serve with mashed potatoes and buttered green beans, spooning the savory mushroom juices over everything.
