Shipwreck

A sweet and smoky Midwestern casserole of crumbled bacon, ground beef, brown sugar, and pork and beans baked until sticky and caramelized.

  • 0.5 lb sliced bacon
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 0.5 lb brown sugar
  • 32 oz canned pork and beans

Instructions

    In a skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Remove to paper towels to drain; crumble and set aside. Drain drippings.

    Brown the beef in the skillet; drain. Add onion and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.

    Combine ketchup and brown sugar; stir into beef mixture.

    Stir in pork and beans and all but 2 tablespoons of the bacon. Transfer to an 8-inch square baking dish.

    Top with remaining bacon. Bake, uncovered, at 350°F for 1 hour.
