Puffy Pizza Casserole
Italian-style ground beef in spaghetti sauce covered with mozzarella, then topped with a golden puffed egg batter — a dramatic pizza-flavored bake that puffs up beautifully in the oven.
Ingredients
- 1 0.5 lb ground beef
- 1 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 0 salt and Tabasco to taste
- 1 0.5 oz dry spaghetti sauce mix
- 0.5 tsp ground oregano
- 0.5 cup water
- 15 oz tomato sauce
- 8 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup flour
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Brown ground beef in large skillet; drain. Stir in bell pepper, onion, garlic, salt, Tabasco, spaghetti sauce mix, oregano, water and tomato sauce; simmer 10 minutes.

Make batter: Combine milk, oil and eggs; beat 1 minute. Lightly spoon in flour and salt; beat 2 minutes at medium speed until smooth.

Pour hot meat mixture into ungreased 9x13-inch baking pan. Top with mozzarella, covering filling completely.

Pour batter over all; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Bake 25-30 minutes until puffed and deep golden brown. Serve immediately, cutting into squares.
