  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 T melted shortening
  • 2 to 3 T sugar, depending on desired sweetness

    Sift the dry ingredients together.

    Stir together the milk, egg and the melted shortening.

    Add the liquid ingredients to the dry mixture, stirring only until mixed.

    Batter will be somewhat lumpy.

    With a tablespoon, drop batter into muffin tins lined with muffin papers; fill 2/3 full.

    Bake at 400° F for 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the size muffin.
