Mother's Whole Wheat Bread

  • 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 7 cups white flour
  • 1 cake yeast
  • 2 ½ tablespoons sugar
  • 3 ½ cups water
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 4 tablespoons shortening
  • 3 teaspoons salt

Instructions

    Mix together 4 cups whole wheat flour, 7 cups white flour, 1 cake yeast, 2 ½ tablespoons sugar, and 3 ½ cups water.

    Add 3 tablespoons molasses and 4 tablespoons shortening to the mixture.

    Work dough well.

    Put in a warm place to raise for 45 to 60 minutes, or until doubled in bulk.

    Knead down.

    Let dough raise another 45 minutes.

    Shape into bread loaves.

    Put into greased (sprayed) bread pans.

    Bake at 375º for 35-40 minutes.
