  • 1/2 cup of flour
  • 1 cup of cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 lightly beaten egg
  • 1 cup of hot water or milk
  • 1 tablespoon of shortening

Instructions

    Mix all of the dry ingredients together

    stir in the egg, water or milk, and the shortening

  3. 3

    Drop or pour into a hot, greased cast iron skillet to form small cakes

  4. 4

    fry until golden brown on both sides
