French Onion Soup Casserole

Baked French onion soup in casserole form — caramelized onions in a creamy chicken soup sauce, covered with Swiss cheese slices and topped with buttered French bread croutons.

  • 3 jumbo yellow onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 10 0.8 oz cream of chicken soup
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 0.5 lb Swiss cheese slices
  • 0 pepper to taste
  • 0 French bread, thinly sliced
  • 0 butter for bread

Instructions

    Sauté sliced onions in butter in large skillet on low to medium heat until transparent. Place in a buttered 9x13-inch glass baking dish.

    Whisk together chicken soup, milk and soy sauce. Pour over onions.

    Cover with Swiss cheese slices and sprinkle with pepper.

    Top with thinly sliced buttered French bread.
