Crockpot Swiss Steak

- 1 0.5 lb beef round steak, cut 3/4 inch thick
- 3 tsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp shortening
- 16 oz canned tomatoes
- 1 whole small onion, sliced
- 1 stalk celery, sliced
- 2 whole medium carrots, sliced
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Cut meat into portions that will fit in your crockpot.

Combine flour, salt, dry mustard, pepper, and garlic powder. Pound 2 tablespoons of the flour mixture into the meat.

Brown the meat in shortening on both sides in a skillet.

Transfer meat to crockpot. Stir remaining flour into pan drippings.

Stir in tomatoes, onion, celery, carrots, Worcestershire sauce, and water into skillet drippings. Cook until thick and bubbly.

Pour sauce over meat in the crockpot. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.

Serve with hot cooked rice or mashed potatoes.
