Chinese Country Ribs

  • 4 lb country ribs, cut into individual portions
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 0.3 cup honey
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp five-spice powder
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch dissolved in 2 tbsp water

Instructions

    Combine ketchup, honey, vinegar, soy sauce, five-spice, onion, ginger, and garlic in slow cooker.

    Broil ribs 6 inches from heat, turning once, until browned, about 10 minutes. Transfer to slow cooker.

    Stir to coat ribs with sauce. Cover and cook on Low 5–6 hours until tender.

    Remove ribs. Skim fat from sauce; simmer and stir in cornstarch mixture until thickened. Pour over ribs and serve with rice.
