Chicago Style Italian Sausage And Pepper Deep Dish Pizza
Chicago-style deep dish pizza loaded with Italian sausage, peppers, onions, mozzarella and tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 cup thinly sliced yellow onions
- 0 to taste salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 4 cup thinly sliced green bell peppers
- 1 lb Italian sausage links, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- 1 recipe basic pizza dough
- 12 oz grated mozzarella cheese
- 2 cup tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp dried oregano

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

In a large saute pan over medium heat, add the oil. Add the onions, season with salt and pepper, and saute for 2 minutes. Add the peppers, season, and continue to saute for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

In a large saute pan, cook the sausage over medium heat for 4-6 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Divide the pizza dough in half and press into two greased 12-inch deep-dish pizza pans. Sprinkle each pizza with 6 oz of the grated cheese.

Spoon half of the onion and pepper mixture over each pizza. Sprinkle half of the sausage over each pizza. Spread 1 cup of tomato sauce over the top of each pizza. Sprinkle each with 1 tablespoon of oregano.

Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and cut into individual servings.
