Chesapeake Crab Strata

  • 4 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 4 cup unseasoned croutons
  • 2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 2 cup milk
  • 8 large eggs large eggs, beaten
  • 0.5 tsp dry mustard
  • 0.5 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.3 tsp black pepper
  • 1 lb crabmeat, picked over to remove any shell

Instructions

    Preheat oven to 325°F.

    Place the butter in an 11 x 7-inch baking dish. Heat in the oven until melted, tilting to coat the dish.

    Remove the dish from the oven; spread the croutons over the melted butter. Top with the shredded cheese and set aside.

    In a bowl, combine the milk, beaten eggs, dry mustard, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

    Gently fold the crabmeat into the egg mixture, then pour it all evenly over the cheese and crouton layer.

    Bake at 325°F for about 50–60 minutes, until the strata is puffed and set in the center and lightly golden on top.

    Garnish with red and green bell pepper rings if desired. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
