    Blend the flour and shortening in a bowl and then stir in enough water to make a stiff dough. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a 10 X 14 inch rectangle and spread with butter. For The Apple Filling: 4 cups of chopped apples 1 1/4 cups of sugar 3 tablespoons of flour 1/2 cup of butter Combine 3 cups of the chopped apples with 1 cup of sugar and spread over the pastry. Roll as if making a jelly roll and place in a crescent shape in a greased 8 X 12 inch baking pan. Mix the remaining apples, sugar, and flour together and place around the roll. Add 2 cups of water to the pan and dot the roll with butter. Bake at 375 degrees for about 45 minutes. Orange Nut Bread 1 orange 1 cup of raisins 1 cup of pecans 1 cup of hot orange juice 1 teaspoon of baking soda 1 cup of sugar 1 teaspoon of vanilla 1 beaten egg 2 cups of flour, sifted 1 teaspoon of baking powder 1/4 teaspoon of salt Using a sharp knife, peel the outer rind from the orange. Grind the orange rind, raisins, and the pecans using the finest blade on a food processor and transfer to a bowl. Pour in the hot orange juice, mix in the baking soda, sugar, vanilla, egg, and the flour sifted with the baking powder and salt. Mix well and pour into a greased loaf pan and bake for 50 minutes at 350 degrees.
