  • 1 cup lard (lard is in original recipe but you
  • 1 tsp cinnamon can use other shortening--Harriet)
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp nutmeg 1 heaping teaspoon soda dissolved in a little
  • 2 cup raisins ½ cup nuts (or more), if desired
